stage 13 : Albacete - Albacete 53kms

ALBACETE-ALBACETE Time Trial 53km

This is the second individual time trial in the Vuelta 2003.
It's the longest time trial, at 53km, in the 25 Vueltas organized by Unipublic.

Totally flat, this stage nonetheless could hold surprises and even difficulties because of the wind, which is usually strong in this area. There could be surprising differences in the times if the wind blows with varying intensity for different riders throughout the day.

The choice of equipment, especially wheels, could be influenced by the direction of the wind--a headwind requiring a different ideal choice than a crosswind or a tailwind. But as the course in effect doubles back on itself, there will be botn a tailwind in the early phases and a headwind in the latter half, thus cancelling out any advantages one way or the other.

For those who will be participating in the World Championships Time Trials in Hamilton, Canada this autumn, this test in the Vuelta 2003 will be an important measurement in preparation for the championships, i.e. David Millar, Dario Frigo & Aitor Gonzalez.

Arrivée de David Millar en 1h 02 165, soit une "musique" de plus de 52 km / h

Michael Moller à l'arrivée, il est crédité du meilleur temps aux pointages 1 et 2 des 14kms et 27 kms.

Cardenas arrive avec beaucoup de retard sur les premiers.

Aitor Gonzalez au départ, on le donne comme l'un des favoris
Aitor Gonzalez, qui a perdu du temps aux premiers pointages s'écroule en fin de parcours et perd 5'36" sur le vainqueur. Il a perdu tutes chances de remeporter la Vuelta 2003.

Perez au départ, il fera un bon temps et repasse devant aitor Gonzalez et unai Osa au général, il est 8ème à 8'49" de Nozal.

Santos Gonzalez, combatif hier et avant hier se place bien encore aujourd'hui.

Santos Gonzalez fait un bon temps,il est 8ème de l'étape
Beltran limite bien les dégats aujourd'hui mais perd une place au général au profit de Heras.

Valverde fait un bon temps qui lui permet de repasser Rasmussen au général.

Heras au départ, il fait la bonne affaire du jour en terminant à 1'45"" de Isidro Nozal; Il se classe 7ème de l'étape. et revient à la 3 ème place du général.
Il devra compter sur une défaillance de Nozal pour gagner la Vuelta 2003, ce qui n'a rien de probable.

Heras avec une position à l'avant du vélo.
Glez Galdeano fait un bon parcours mais perd du temps sur Nozal et en regagne peu sur Heras.

Il prend du temps à tout le monde Millar y compris.
il confirme son grand talent.
NOZAL est Vainqueur une nouvelle fois avec 13" d'avance sur Millar.

Nozal au combiné encore une fois. On sait que ce classement supporté par la communauté de Madrid est important dans le coeur des espagnols, il témoigne d'une présence et d'une bonne régularité dans la course.

Only Klaus Moller bettered Millar in the splits--7" up at km 14 & 4" up at km 27.

At Km 41, though, Moller is 11" behind Millar's time.

Hincapie posts 8th place finish at this point in 1:O5' 36", after enormous work for Heras & Beltran yesterday.

Nozal has 37" on teamate Galdeano--surprising us again! Becoming increasingly a favorite for the tour.

Heras has only 1'01" deficit at km 41.

At km41 Nozal has 7" on Millar.

Valverde finishes in good time, to take 9th place.

Perez finishes 3'09" down on Millar, but nonetheless will pass A. Gonzalez & U. Osa in overall.

Bad day for A. Gonzalez, who finishes 5'36" down.

Frigo finishes 4 minutes down, henceforth 9 minutes down from Nozal overall.

At km 41 a 54" difference between Nozal & Galdeano.

Rasmussen loses 4'27" to Millar.

Heras finishes 1'32" down from Millar--a successful operation.

Nozal finishes 1'03" up on Galdeano, & 13" ahead of Millar to take the stage.
